Welcome to the Boxing Beat, the newest addition to RingsidePhoto.com!
Gary Shaw Promotions ignited June with a sizzling night of professional boxing at Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.
Headlining the six match fight card was Jr. Middleweight undefeated contender James Kirkland taking on the tough Ossie Duran. The co-feature had undefeated Jr. Welterweight, Timothy Bradley step into the ring with southpaw Donald Camarena. Both fights were televised live on “SHOWBOX: The New Generation”
In the main event it looked like James Kirkland (19-0, 16 KOs) would have an easy night as he leveled Ossie Duran (23-6, 9 KOs) early in the first round. The tough Ghanan got back to his feet and managed to clear the cobwebs to finish the round. For the next nine rounds Duran proved why he was in there against the number 13 ranked WBO Jr. middle weight from Austin, Texas. Throughout the fight the two combatants exchanged fierce punches. While the fans in attendance cheered for Duran it was Kirkland who came up with the 10 round unanimous decision victory with scores by judge Gwen Adair and Jack Reiss 97-92, judge David Mendoza 95-94. I had the fight scored 95-94 for Kirkland.
Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley from Palm Springs, CA, left the “storm” in the desert. Donald Camarena of Denver, CO, appeared to be a fearless southpaw willing to trade with Bradley from the opening round. Bradley seemed to land the more effective blows throughout the fight, but failed to capitalize in the late rounds when Camarena started to run out of gas. In those late rounds Bradley ranked number 5 by the WBC and ranked number 9 by the WBA took advantage of the fatigued Camarena by getting a little rest him self as the two stood before each other giving me some time to view some of the images I had just taken. Bradley improved his record to 20-0, 11 KOs while Donald Camarena’s record dropped to 18-4, 9 KOs by scores of 99-91 (judge Raul Caiz Jr., and Marty Denkin) and 100-90 (judge Jack Reiss).
Last but not least, we had a patriotic group of round card girls. God Bless America!
